NZ Employment Law - 90-day trials reintroduced Dec 2023

From Saturday 23 December 2023, all New Zealand employers, regardless of their size, may employ a new employee on a trial period of up to the first 90 calendar days of their employment. 

It is critical to note that all trial periods must be pre-agreed in a written employment agreement before the employee starts work. Additionally, a trial period cannot be applied if the employee has worked for the employer before.
